Math Learning Update…

We are extending our study of geometry and measurement by using a line plot to show data.   Today we measured the height of our classmates and tomorrow we will chart the results in a line plot.  In the next few days, we will be using many units of measurements including meters, inches, feet and yards.  Below find the most recent parent letter .

Unit 3… Family Letter…

This week we started a new math unit.. YEAH!    We will be using new tools, rulers, to help us measure line segments, draw shapes and solve for perimeter ( distance around a shape).    Our main focus will be describing shapes by their name, the numbers of angles and the number of sides that they have.  We will also be investigating 3-Dimensional shapes and using BIG geometry terms such as, faces, prism and area.     We are SUPER excited about our measurement study!!!!   Here is a copy of the most recent parent letter:

PE Cares Food Drive… Begins Tomorrow…

The annual P.E. C.A.R.E.S food drive will be starting on November 6.  We are asking for your help by bringing in non-perishable food items for Love Inc. in Hudsonville.  Food items to consider are canned vegetables and fruits, pasta, rice, baked beans, black beans, kidney beans, peanut butter, tuna fish, etc.
 (please no ramen noodles)
The food drive will continue until Nov. 21.  We will be keeping track of how many items each class brings in for the food drive.  The class with the most items at the end of the day on Nov. 21 will win a bowling trip to Hudsonville Lanes and a P.E. C.A.R.E.S t-shirt.
This is a great opportunity for our students to care for their community, thanks for sharing in this service project with us at Georgetown.

Million Dollar Words Club!

REMINDER:   KEEP TRACK OF YOUR BOOKS ALL YEAR!

If you have ever dreamed of being a millionaire, now is your chance.  Every student has the opportunity to become a member of this club if they succeed in reading for 1,000,000 words (or more) this year.

Mrs. VandenBerg, our librarian, keeps the tally of your books read on Reading Counts and Book Blogs.   The word count keep growing as long as you keep turning in your book lists, completing book blogs and/or completing reading counts quizzes. You can also track the books you read at home on this document (just print at home and write down your books).  We celebrate the millionaires at the end of each school year.  Find out about past millionaires by searching our blog with the key word ‘ millionaires ‘.

As a member of the MILLION WORDs club, each member will have their name on the MILLIONAIRE’s BOARD (display case in our rotunda) and receive gift card to BARNES and NOBLE.   How do you log your words?  It’s as easy as this:

  1. READING COUNTS QUIZZES: Each time you complete a  Reading Counts quiz, you get credit for all those words.  Mrs. Vandenberg keeps track of the word count for you.
  2. BOOK SHOUT OUT…If you aren’t a fan of the quizzes, write about your book SHOUT OUT to encourage others to read the book too.
  3. MILLION WORD CLUB BOOK LIST:  If you don’t like READING COUNTS QUIZZES, but you LOVE to read, you can still work on becoming a MILLIONAIRE.  Keep track of ALL the books you read at home (and on vacation) print this form:  Million Word Club History – PDF.
