Reminders for Monday…

It was wonderful to meet everyone at Open House Wednesday night! Thanks for attending! It made me very excited for the upcoming year! We have an amazing group! Thanks so much for sending in the supplies and wonderful donations! We’re stocked to start the year! Before our exciting first day, here are three important reminders…

Student Information Forms – Please send in the student information forms (received at Open House) back to school on Monday. Double check to make sure that your contact information is correct for our files.

Me Bags – At Open House, your child also received a Me Bag. We will enjoy sharing these bags as we get to know one another throughout the first week of school. Please make sure that your child’s name is on his/her bag before sending it to school on Monday.

Water Bottle and Snacks – Your child should bring two healthy nut free snacks and a filled water bottle (no juice please) to stay fueled every day. Morning and afternoon snacks are essential for maintaining energy and attention. Please do not send candy or sugary snacks. High sugar foods cause an energy crash that makes learning difficult. If your child ever forgets a snack, we have a great supply of graham crackers (thanks for your donations!). For more information on snack ideas, you can click the Nut Free Snack List found on the blog.

Lunch- Please talk to your child about their lunch plan daily so they know if they should order a hot lunch or milk in the morning. We will double check on the first day that everyone either has a home lunch or orders in the morning!

Specials- We will start with music as our special Monday. We will then repeat with a four day rotation going music, gym, art, steam. Gym will fall Tuesday this week, please have separate gym shoes in their locker and send socks by Tuesday.

Birthdays-  At Open House I included a note in your child’s blue folder on birthdays and books. Your child can bring their favorite book or donate one to our classroom on their special day. Let me know if you have questions. Thanks so much! We will celebrate summer birthdays in May/June.

Blue Folder- This is our daily communication folder. If you have any notes for me for changes in transportation, early pick up, etc. these go in their folder. Any homework or work done at school will come back in the folder each day. This is your child’s job to be responsible for daily.

**Finally, with the start of a new school year many students experience some anxiety. Here is link to an excellent blog post to help children through these stressful moments. 13 Powerful Phrases Proven to Help an Anxious Child Calm Down

Looking forward to seeing those wonderful second graders on Monday!  They can head to the 2/3 playground after they get dropped off by car or bus. They should look for the sign that says “Ms. Yankee” that will show where we line up daily. 🙂
