Reading the Rainbow Homework!!

Welcome back and Happy New Year! Today was a great day in kindergarten! It was so fun to be back and hear all sorts of fun stories from break!

I introduced the students to our new weekly homework called “Reading the Rainbow”. The word lists were created from our big list of the 60 sight words we’re trying to master before the end of the school year! I broke the words up into smaller sets to work on mastering at a time before they move to the next set of words! Hence the next color in the rainbow! We have a list of 14 lists total  to work on throughout the year! As new lists are added to the page protector work on their current list, but please also review the older lists so they are not forgotten! These words we would like to know automatically, in a snap! Work on mastering them out of order as you point to the words on your child’s list. I also sent home a blue sheet of instructions today further detailing the program and giving you suggestions of how to practice these words! In the classroom we’re working with these words daily at our split literacy time. We’re writing the words many different ways and playing games to keep practicing! The more sight words we can master the easier reading will be!

With 5 minutes of home practice our sight word knowledge will start growing quick!!!! Please work with us! Please sign the comment sheet just once a week to date that the list was practiced! Please return the list each WEDNESDAY!!!!!!  We will have a parent or another teacher here to run through their list with them! We will gradually move up colors when our words are mastered!

Any questions/concerns please e-mail me, myankee@hpseagles.net! Happy sight word practicing! Have fun reading the rainbow!!!
